A new feature, from IT guru Ken Clipperton:

New “Campus Classifieds” Service May 5, 2009 Campus Classifieds is a new site on myMLC. The service was created at the request of Student Senate. Campus Classifieds is the place to buy or sell goods and services within the MLC community. This service is intended for all members of our community: Students, Faculty and Staff.

As a new service, we are considering this a pilot. As you use it and think of ways it might be improved, please send your suggestions to senate@mlc.edu. Senate will work with the IT department to make requested changes to the system. Those changes will be announced on the Campus Classifieds home page.

Guidelines for using “Campus Classifieds” Use this service only in a legal and ethical way. Failure to do so will get the same results as any other violation of MLC policies.

How to get to “Campus Classifieds” Campus Classifieds is one of the sites listed on the left side of the screen when you log into https://myMLC.mlc.edu.

Let the sun shine…. Let the sun shine in

Midland’s science department is hosting international solar energy expert, Dr. Richard Komp, on April 27.

Dr. Komp will deliver presentations to students during the day and deliver a community lecture that evening on the benefits and uses of solar technology.

This is a man who practices what he preaches. Dr. Komp lives in an off-grid home he designed and built in Jonesport, Maine, and travels internationally teaching solar energy education.

Dr. Komp will speak 6:30-8 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium on the Midland Lutheran College campus.

Midland makes the news

Omaha’s Fox 42 was one of many media outlets that ran with Midland’s Stewardship Tuition Program.

Want to blog about Midland?

I am seeking some student bloggers for Interterm and the Spring semester.

Vast blogging experience is not necessary, but writing skills are pretty important as is a distinct viewpoint.

I have 3-4 spots available, which means each student would be responsible for 3-4 posts per week (of course, you can do more if you like). A good distribution among class standing would be nice, too.

In short, I want you to tell the rest of campus (and the world) about your experiences at Midland. Your stories, your words, your blog.

Interested students should contact the Office of Communications at communications@mlc.edu or X6500.

Election Eve

Just a friendly reminder, Warrior Nation, that tomorrow is Election Day. I know in the maelstrom of political ads and aerial mud assaults, it might be easy to overlook or ignore tomorrow’s vote.

Please don’t.

I will not tell you for whom to vote. Not my place.

I will, however, heavily encourage (read: beg) you to vote.

Voting is, without much argument, one of the most important things you can do as a citizen. The effort, sacrifice, and battles that have been fought to make sure we are free to cast our vote make voting our absolute duty.

Do your part. Do your research. Cast your vote.

In honor of the events that will transpire tomorrow, I turn to the words of a man who fully understood the value of an individual’s vote.

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat. -Theodore Roosevelt

Do your duty, vote tomorrow.

Flu shots all around tomorrow at the OSC

Don’t let the influenza bug run you down this winter.

Stop on over at the OSC tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and get your flu shot. It’s just $15.

Even if needles aren’t your favorite thing, look at it this way. You can get one shot now, or face a few injections down the road when the flu bug is in full swing.

I took allergy shots (2X, once a week) for about 10 years. So I’ve got enough scar tissue in the bicep region that I don’t feel anything smaller than .22 caliber. Stick away, Nurse Hotovy, I’m ready.

No joke, do the smart thing and get your flu shot. If not for yourself, think of all your classmates who have to listen to your cough otherwise. Do it for them!

See you there!

Want to do something simple, easy and free to help Midland?

I knew you would.

If you, your business, or your organization has a Web page, or a blog, or a Facebook/MySpace page, or any form of Internet site please post a link to www.mlc.edu.

It doesn’t have to be huge or prominent, but every single link to the College’s Web site helps.

This little act will pay off big for the school when it comes to search engines. In short, your little link will make it much easier for people (potential students, alumni, friends) to find Midland Lutheran College through Google or AOL or Yahoo!, etc.

This is a quick, cost-free way you can help support our efforts here at Midland.

I thank you in advance for your help and support.
