First-year class (50 years after the first)

I had the pleasure of attending the 50-year class breakfast this morning. These members of the class of 1958 came from all corners of the U.S. and their love for Midland Lutheran was apparent.

I also saw what has to be one of the wisest investments I’ve ever seen.

John Carson showed us his Lifetime Pass to Midland athletics…

Let’s see, average of 12 football games a year, 80 or so men’s and women’s basketball, then figure volleyball, baseball, softball….

That card was definitely worth whatever he paid for it.

Talent and royalty

It was a busy, busy night for Warrior nation.

From the Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame, we had to rush over to the 2008 Talent Show and Homecoming Coronation.

Congratulations to Kegan Mosier, who was named the overall winner for his original song and performance.

Of course, the big question of the night… Who would be named Homecoming King and Queen.

The big answer was Jamison Meints as King and Katie Francis as Queen.

The evening came to a close with a family look-a-like contest (which to Tohara family won) and a rousing performance from the pep band and cheer team.

Talk about a high energy performance

See you all at the big game. Remember, it’s a black out so Think Orange, Wear Black.

Pie after pie after pie… oh my

Luckily, I had lunch BEFORE the Cultural Unity pie eating contest. If I had waited to eat… well, I likely wouldn’t have eaten.

Let’s get right to the action.

There was whipped cream.

Lots of whipped cream.

LOTs of whipped cream

Two serious contenders began to emerge for the title.

J.D. Kauffman found a quick way to reduce the competition.

(At this point, I wisely decided to relocate.)

In the end, Warrior football linebacker Michael Sivels and marketing intern Nick “The Man-Child” Shreck were tied with five pies each.

EAT OFF!!!!!

After a sixth pie drag race, MIchael’s superior training paid off and he out-ate Nick to the finish.

So, congratulations to Champion Michael Sivels, Second Place Nick Shreck, and Third Place J.D. Kauffman.

You have all convinced me to begin a diet.

Who’s hungry?

Homecoming shenanigans get underway at high noon with a student pie eating contest in the PDRs…

Stay tuned to WarriorWay all weekend for the latest Homecoming news, images, and updates.

Mmmmm…. pie.

More love for the Warriors

My old pal Ken Hambleton from the Lincoln Journal Star has joined in the lovefest for our Warrior football lads.

Aside from writing a killer column, Kenny also makes a mean cheeseburger. You know, just in case you were wondering.

Please keep Ken and his wife R.J. in your thoughts…. They’re Chicago Cubs fans.

A nice column on the football team

Barry Fouts of the Victory Sports Network has a pretty nice article about Coach Thiele and the Midland Warrior football team.

It provides some insight into the success the team has seen this season, especially when faced with some challenges.

Take a read to help you get fired up about the 4-0 Warriors taking on Dakota Wesleyan tomorrow.

Remember, the game is a BLACKOUT! so wear your best black.

THINK ORANGE!

WEAR BLACK!

BLACKOUT!!!!!!!!

The players and coaches of the Midland Lutheran College football team are declaring a BLACKOUT for homecoming.

Show your support for the No. 22 ranked Warriors by wearing your best black MLC gear to next Saturday’s Homecoming game.

Let the guys know you have their backs in black.

(Which reminds me… See Taylor Wentz to get your Warrior Zone T-shirt, conveniently produced in black)

Let’s turn Memorial Field into a black hole for Dakota Wesleyan!!!
