Warrior athletes receive GPAC honors

Kudos go out to the latest Warrior athletes to be honored by the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

Soccer – Women’s Defense – Ashley Kirkman, Midland Lutheran – Defender
Midland Lutheran defender Ashley Kirkman is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Kirkman, a junior from Centennial, Colorado, helped solidify the Warriors defense in a pair of key GPAC wins. Midland defeated Nebraska Wesleyan and Morningside on the week. Kirkman was the 2006 GPAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year. The Warriors are now 8-4-1.

Football – Special Teams- Paul Maielua, Midland Lutheran – Kicker
Midland Lutheran kicker Paul Maielua is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Maielua, a junior from Makawao, Hawaii, made a pair of field goals in the Warriors 27-0 win over Dordt. One the field goals was a career long 46 yarder as time expired in the first half. He also made all three of his PAT’s in the game. Midland Lutheran is 5-2 on the season, and 4-2 in the GPAC. The Warriors will play at Morningside at 1PM this weekend.

Midland netminder named to GPAC honor

Soccer goalkeeper Eric Vrba has been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his shutout of Northwestern.

The junior from Columbus made nine saves in the 0-0 tie.
