Warrior Words of the Day

When you see yourself doing something badly and nobody’s bothering to tell you anymore, that’s a very bad place to be. Your critics are your ones telling you they still love you and care.

– Dr. Randy Pausch, 1960-2008

Warrior Words of the Day

“The basic difference between an ordinary man and a warrior is that a warrior takes everything as a challenge while an ordinary man takes everything either as a blessing or a curse”
– Carlos Castaneda, author

Those who have developed their Warrior Spirit are willing to assume some measure of control over their lives. Instead of sitting back and waiting for life to throw things at them, Warriors dictate what their life paths will be. For a Warrior, life (or career, education, etc.) is a matter of design, which they control, instead of a matter of development, which is by its very nature reactionary.

If you think you can, you’re right.

If you think you can’t, you’re also right.

– Henry Ford

Not much explanation needed here. We are only limited by what we think we can’t do.

“A teacher is never a giver of truth—he is a guide, a pointer to the truth that each student must find for himself(or herself). A good teacher is merely a catalyst.”
–Bruce Lee

Education is a joint venture. One must find an educated person to guide them down the path, but at the same one must also find the “truth” for themselves. Without both parties, learning is just reciting of dates.

If you know the oppponont and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred competitions. If you know yourself but not the opponent, for every success gained you will also suffer failure. If you know neither the opponent nor yourself, you will succumb in every conflict.

– Sun Tzu, Chinese general, philosopher

In other words, having Insight into your own skills, knowledge, and abilities is equally important as your external strength. Until you know the inner self, you can never consistently succeed.

… we are starting the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research. And its motto is “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.” And that’s what I’m going to try to do every minute that I have left. I will thank God for the day and the moment I have. And if you see me, smile and maybe give me a hug. That’s important to me too…

… I know, I gotta go, I gotta go, and I got one last thing and I said it before, and I’m gonna say it again: Cancer can take away all my physical ability. It cannot touch my mind; it cannot touch my heart; and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever.

I thank you and God bless you all.

– Jim Valvano (1946-1993), NCAA Champion Basketball Coach

The path of the Warrior is lifelong, and mastery is often simply staying on the path.
